In the mood for some laughs? Your short attention span will be rewarded with much laughter this weekend.
DC Shorts, voted “Coolest Short Film Festival” by Movie Maker Magazine, returns for the New Year with two nights of comedy on Friday, January 8th and Saturday, January 9th with DC Shorts LAUGHS! Each show will feature comedic short films interspersed with live stand-up performances by the areas top stand-up comedians. There will be an early show and a late show on both nights that feature different films and comedians, but don’t worry — if you just can’t get enough, you have the option of buying a double header ticket.
Each show will last 90 minutes and feature previous films that have appeared in the DC Shorts Film Festival. “With all the negativity in the news these days DC Shorts LAUGHS! is a great excuse to get out of the house and do something fun,” says Kimberley Bush, DC Shorts Film Festival Director. “Comedy fans generally love funny movies as well as stand up, so it’s a lot of fun to throw both of them together.”
The event, DC Shorts LAUGHS!, takes place at the U.S. Navy Memorial’s Burke Theater and will feature the LAUGHS! Bar, serving beer and cocktail specials.
Look for a diverse array of comedians such as Katherine Jessup (who recently headlined the Charm City Festival), Naomi Johnson (producer of the Funniest Fed competition and featured in publications such as the Washington Post and Huffington Post) and Isaac Hirsch (winner of the DC edition of Funny or Die’s Oddball stand-up competition in 2014).
