St. Jude’s Gourmet Gala Goes Mardi Gras

If you think Mardi Gras is only happening on Bourbon Street, the folks at St. Jude Children’s Hospital are here to prove you wrong.

The 15th annual St. Jude Gourmet Gala, presented by Hanover, took place on Fat Tuesday and broughtok_dsc0286 all of the glitz, glamour, and fun of New Orleans to DC’s National Building Museum.

An auction led by “The Apprentice” star Sam Solovey raised more than $70,000 for St. Jude, which will go towards covering all of the costs of the children and families who need the hospital’s help, as the mission of ok_dsc0315St. Jude’s allows no child to be denied treatment — regardless of the family’s ability to pay.

A sampling of delicacies generously donated by more than 40 of DC’s top chefs followed the auction. Tasty treats such as The Majestic’s Red’s She Crab Soup, a delicious family recipe brought in by Chef Shannon Overmiller (at left), and Adour’s to-die-for macarons, presented by Chef Fabrice Bendano (below right, , had the crowds lining up for seconds.

In case their sweet tooth wasn’t quite satisfied, all guests left with delicious goodies from Georgetown Cupcake and Firehook Bakery as well.ok_dsc0296

The event also honored several people, including 5-year cancer survivor Craig Johnson, who attended the event with his family and girlfriend, giving a heartwarming speech to make a magical night all that much more moving.
