Sleepover @ the Sofitel

Right in the heart of downtown DC – like minutes from the White House – is a historic American building with a very European outlook on life.

When Pierre-Louis Renaud, new General Manager of the Sofitel at Lafayette Square (806 15th Street NW) and I spoke about organizing a stay at the hotel, it was originally to check out the famously comfortable Sofitel MyBed (trademarked). But it wasn’t just the bed that won me over!

I’m not one to stay often in hotels (remember I’m a B&B girl on vacations!), but I do appreciate the comfort, quiet and cleanliness of a well-run accomodation. And the chance to act as tourist in DC’s downtown district during the Memorial Day weekend was too good to pass up!

Sofitel earns its 4.5 stars. From the warm greeting at check-in to the impeccable quality of the room, the delicious offerings at le bar and iCi Urban Bistro to the extreme capability and consideration of the staff, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. But, M. Renaud, those luxury linens were definitely the best part; I see a Sofitel MyBed product line in the future. I sure want one!

*I should note that I had two disappointments during my stay. One, the movie selection that I ordered at a way-to-early-hour in the morning wasn’t working. But I didn’t need to be watching a movie at that time anyway – I should have been enjoying my best night’s rest on the MyBed! And second, unfortunately, DC’s Sofitel does not currently have any spa offerings. This is a shame, as I’m sure the experience would be exquisite, but I’m told to look for a potential partnering with a local established spa in the near future. In the meantime, check out the gym!

This is NOT a paid endorsement, but an honest evaluation of experiences at this local business. We encourage you to visit Sofitel and let us know how you enjoyed your stay… and please tell them K Street Kate sent you!
