See Sculpture as You Stroll Foggy Bottom

Frolicking through Foggy Bottom?  You may stumble upon one of Washington’s leading programs for presenting public art!

Sculpted: Histories Revealed, the award-winning Arts in Foggy Bottom outdoor sculpture biennial is back for its fourth season, featuring 16 contemporary sculptures by 15 artists — most of whom are nationally recognized — presented on private properties throughout the Foggy Bottom neighborhood.

Site specific, and sometimes playfully pun-ny, each work represents the personae and tradition of Historic Foggy Bottom  For example, artist Mariah Anne Johnson, an adjunct fine art professor at George Washington University, whose preferred artistic medium is bed sheets, takes her inspiration from her mother’s efforts to maintain aesthetic order in the home, creating undulating sculptural installations.

“The sculptures reflect both the home at which they are sited and the current homeowner. As a result, Sculpted: Histories Revealed communicates a piece of the present and a piece of the past,” says 2014 public art exhibit curator and Deirdre Ehlen MacWilliams.

The Foggy Bottom biennial outdoor sculpture exhibition can be viewed in front of homes and businesses in Historic Foggy Bottom between 24th and 26th Streets, NW, and H and K Streets, NW, day and night through Saturday, October 25.
