Save the Screen, Free Outdoor Flicks


Summertime is almost upon us again.  Time for hot days, happening nights and free outdoor flicks.

If you’re on the Hill, check out the the annual Summer Screen series every Wednesday.   From May through July, Summer Screen will running films on the motif “The Future is Now”  featuring cult mindbenders “Logan’s Run” and “Donnie Darko” alongside kid friendly fare like “ET” and “Back to the Future” — with a bit of Mel Brooks, Woody Allen and Bill Murray thrown in for good measure.


DJ duo Fatback hits the decks at 7 PM to warm up a crowd full of beach blankets, beer coolers and barbeque.  Or save your place and just jump in for the screenings at 9 PM on L St. in between 2nd and 3rd Sts. NE. Here’s the schedule:

In similar – but unrelated – news, a year ago today, HBO announced that they would be cancelling Screen on the Green, an astonishingly popular outdoor film series shown on the Mall.  A number of supporters have stepped up to keep the moving picture parties in place.  Add your support by signing on to the petition to Save Screen on the Green on Facebook or join the letter writing campaign.
