RG3 Woman to the Rescue?!

He-Man had She Ra.  Colossus fell for Kitty Pryde.  So Lauren Bacon’s “RG3 Woman” was a natural complement to the Redskins’ once superhero quarterback, Robert Griffin III.  Though theirs was to be a rallying, rather than romantic, relationship.

Like many DC area natives, Bacon was raised on the Redskins.  The self-professed “die-hard fan” attended games since the age of 12, always admiring former corner back Darrel Green as her favorite player.

And then RG3 arrived.

“Besides his overwhelming skill, Griffin’s humble and positive attitude reminded me of Green, and very quickly made me a huge fan,” explained Bacon.  “I decided to dedicate my 2012 Halloween costume to my new super hero — and I have worn it to every home game since.”

Every home game… including the fateful January playoffs performance that halted the 22 year old football hero with a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee.

“I really thought we were going to win and definitely didn’t expect the day to end with our star player crumbling to the ground right in front of my eyes. The stadium was instantly quiet as if everyone was holding their breath.”

Bad news: Unlike the movies and comic strips, sports superheros aren’t invincible — and his gal pal couldn’t do anything to save him.

“If I could use super hero powers to reverse time, I would make sure that Robert, the coaches and the medical staff communicated better and really thought out the risk [of continuing to play an injured player].”  If only those wonders would work!

But in the meantime — and until RG3 recovers — Bacon will keep RG3 Woman in action: informing fans of Griffin’s status on twitter and continuing to dress in costume to keep the fan frenzy in force.

Just like Robert Griffin III, RG3 Woman isn’t going anywhere,” she asserts, predicting a quick recovery and a long career due to his “personal strength, work ethic and positive attitude.”

“I will see everyone back at FedEx Field next year…maybe with the small addition of a knee brace.”
