Ready, Set, Pour: Teams ‘Compete’ in Inaugural DC Beerathon

The first annual Beerathon, a multi-venue beer tasting tour, chugged around DC Saturday.  Participants started in their neighborhood of choice (Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan, U Street, 14th  Street…) and hopped around to each venue, tasting a different craft or premium beer along the way.  Twenty-six in all, of course.  (Plus .2 if you took them up on a sponsored car service!)

Already popular in other metropolitan cities — and anticipated as DC’s craft brew grassroots continue to grow — the Beerathon offered pints at El Centro D.F., Nellie’s, The Reef, James Hoban’s, Black Jack, Stoney’s, MadHatter, Science Club, Maddy’s, Ben’s Next Door, BGR The Burger Joint, Bourbon, Cantina @ Darlington House, Locolat, Buffalo Billiards, Mackey’s, JoJo, Larry’s Lounge, Bistro La Bonne, 1905 Roofdeck, Desperados, and Alero and brought out such suds swallowers as Adam Curtin, Connor Eroom and Kyle Hendrick (pictured in blue DC Bullets shirts), Dreams For Kids’ Glenda Fu, Constellation Wines’ Andrew George, Lincoln’s Aaron Cathcart, and the Beerathon’s own Daniel Kramer.

A portion of event proceeds were divided between Friends of Rigby (promoting fire safety awareness among college students); Dreams for Kids (empowering at-risk and disabled youth through dynamic leadership programs and life-changing activities); and Just ‘Cause (a local charity fundraising engine).

A second “Spring” Beerathon is already in the planning stages.
