Pour the Port!

Hops hotspot Birch and Barley hosted a different kind of dinner on Wednesday evening — a private Port Dinner.

The Instituto dos Vinhos do Duoro e Porto (IVDP) hosted guests such as Yelp’s Kristin Mink, Ghazal Vaghedi, The Georgetowner’s Adra Williams and DC This Week’s Jade Floyd to enjoy a professionally Port paired five-course meal created by Birch and Barley’s executive chef Kyle Bailey.

Arctic Char with White Port, grilled ribeye with a special Reserve Port, and a spectacular goat cheese cheesecake with salted olive oil ice cream and port poached seckel pears were among the courses that piqued the interest of those at the Port tasting party.

Whites, Colheitas, and a variety of Vintage Ports flowed as lively dinner conversation was sprinkled with commentary on the dishes from Chef Bailey and educational wine facts… like that Port wine comes from the Douro region of northern Portugal where unique conditions produce a wine that cannot be replicated.

Wine Fun Fact: Traditionally enjoyed leisurely after a meal, Port is often paired with chocolate, fruit, and ice cream.. Valentines take note!
