Pooch Party!

Last night’s Sugar & Champagne event put on by the Washington Humane Society was crazy – I’ve never seen so many four legged friends in one room! I was covering for DC Magazine, so look forward to my event coverage there, but as I partied with the pooches, I thought about how adorable they all were… and what a remarkable number of people have dogs in the city!

It was a canine night out! So many breeds. So many tiny outfits. I even saw one poodle with glasses and a hat! The food, sugar sensations from just about every pastry chef in the city, was enough to keep both the pets and the people yapping. It was easier to keep away from temptation after what I’m sure I saw was a human bite into a doggie biscuit. Instead, I feasted on Hello Cupcakes.

On eye level I saw people exchanging cards. Below, I saw dogs doing their own business. (Is the Ritz planning to re-carpet that ballroom sometime soon??) It was certainly an event for the canine crew and their owners to ‘mark their territory’ – so few parties allow guests to bring their pets, and no one likes to leave their best friend at home.

(Thanks, C.C. for tagging me in the pictures – I can’t believe I forgot my camera! Above: Rodrigo and I with Matt Lowe and Tara de Nicolas, Communications Director and Event Organizer for the Washington Humane Society. Right: Petting Sparky.)
