While the majority of the room was impressively incognito in their masquerade masks, there were still a strong number of notable faces at the Citizens Association of Georgetown Gala last Friday night. The neighborhood’s annual soiree moved from the Russian to the Italian Embassy this year, and was the toast of the town as a featured Venetian Carnivale.
The fundraising event, which also honors the community work of esteemed residents — this year Herbert and Patrice Miller — didn’t lack for political presence. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton was on hand, along with Ward 2 Councilmember (and Mayoral hopeful) Jack Evans, Councilmember at Large Vincent Orange and former Mayor Anthony Williams.
After the feasting and frivolity, a live auction tempted those in attendance with beauty, clothing, dining and travel experiences. And when the mystery of the masks were just about to wear away, Georgetown’s younger set kept the gondolas going, showing up as reinforcements for an all-night after-party.
