Opera fan? If you are — or even if you haven’t yet had a chance to get a taste for the tenors — the Washington National Opera announced today its annual community (totally family friendly!) event that gives so many a chance to whet their appetite for the art form.
Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 7 p.m. at Nationals Park, The Opera and M&M’s will present for FREE Rossini’s charming comedy “Cinderella” live broadcast from the Kennedy Center Opera House to the high-definition NatsHD scoreboard. Now, this isn’t exactly the traditional fairy tale we all know and love (close, but no glass slipper). A few fantastic twists give it added touches of whimsy and make it a fabulous Springtime treat for the whole family.
Be sure to plan ahead for this special event as tickets are rapidly snapped up as they become available. Those who love opera — as well as those simply looking for a fun free cultural activity — will be honored to enjoy one of Rossini’s finest vocal works, as well as the WNO debuts of both Isabel Leonard (American mezzo-soprano and 2013 Richard Tucker Award winner) and Italian conductor Speranza Scappucci.
Cinderella will be performed in Italian with easy-to-follow English titles.
“Pregame” entertainment and family events begin at 5 p.m. Free seating is available on the outfield grass and in the stands. The event will take place rain or shine.
