North vs. South, but Friends of Facebook

This week, we got a sneak peak at the new National Archives exhibit opening on April 30th, Discovering the Civil War

Ken Burns, Emmy award winner (for his documentary, The Civil War), was on hand to explain the significance of the Exhibit and the Archives. “The United States ‘are’ has become the United States ‘is’ – we have become a singular force because of the myriad of documents that we celebrate here.”

If the last time you learned anything new about the civil war was from a high school textbook…  this is your chance to view old records presented in the most contemporary forms — like a touch screen Facebook for Civil War Generals that shows unknown connections and “friendships” between Confederate and Union leaders. You can even discover your own personal “bottom-up American History” just like Burns, who discovered documents detailing his Great Great Grandfather’s military service.

The 6,000 square ft exhibit will eventually hit the road on national tour so don’t miss your chance to re-discover the civil war, at the National Archives through September 6th.
