New Years Eve!!!

T minus three days and you’ve dropped the ball on deciding where to watch the ball drop. With so many choices – and nearly every bar/lounge/resto/offering a fixed price party – the options are overwhelming. But not all excitement is created equal.

Here are our nine top selections to say BOOM BOOM POW to 2009 (in no particular order):

You can have dinner at Marvin, or just stop in after 9 PM when the 14th street resto (and not-yet-even-opened Jamaican themed Patty Boom Boom around the corner!) jointly features a DJ set by Thievery Corporation’s Eric Hilton. Be the first to see the new spot, enjoy music by DJ Keenan, vocalist Sleepy Wonder and the Thievery man himself for only $20.

Head to H Street’s Palace of Wonders for a Daredevil New Year’s Eve and more sideshow antics than you can shake your sword at. Fire breathing, sword swallowing, tassle twirling and a freak-in good time help you bring in the new year with a big bang! All day, from 10 AM, $20.

DC101‘s Elliot in the Morning and Roche host a Downtown Countdown with 3rd Eye Blind and Gonzo’s Nose at the Grand Hyatt, beginning at 8 PM. Four areas on entertainment – and a bartender for every 75 attendees – means you won’t be waiting to be served… or mingling with the masses. It’s one of the pricier parties, which takes care of that as well. VIP SOLD OUT. GA currently $169.

Set sail at Current for a Cruise to Carnaval in Rio. $40 GA tickets (or pricier table options) afford you a midnight champagne toast, balloon drop, and other swag to give you your sea legs. “Couples and Bubbles” tickets available as well.

Across the street, 18th Street Lounge provides a South American soiree with Brazilian Beat Brooklyn’s duo on the main floor and a special 2010 introduction set by Thomas Blondet. Evening MC Zeebo of See-I presides over the main room battery and Blue Bosso on the second level, where The Donvonte McCoy Sextet also goes to Rio. Tickets $30.

Put on the Ritz at The Reserve , a chic space offering an intimate and classy countdown. $100 gets you an open bar all night – or include dinner for just $50 more.

At the Park Hyatt – not to be confused with the Grand Hyatt above – DJ Neekola will be spinning while you enjoy your open bar, tapas buffet, and heated outdoor patio with cigars and scotch. $140 makes it happen, complete with party hats, noisemakers, hosted by WUSA9‘s Angie Goff and friends.

Ryan Zimmerman and Chris Cooley host an open bar party at George. 9-1 premium open bar packed with preppy partiers. Last minute tickets $125.

Euronet International’s 007 License to Thrill: Thunderball Around the World” Gala will be taking over the Washington Plaza Hotel. Previous years have been featured in Playboy! Expect brazen Bond girls, free flowing champers, and a Sean Connery look-alike, mock casino gambling, music and fun from around the world. 9:30 PM start. GA tix $149, VIP $199, Presidential $300.

Be safe, have fun, Happy New Year!!!
