In Italian, osteria means a place where the owner “hosts” guests, which is exactly what happened Monday night! DC foodies and other social scene setters gathered for a VIP-exclusive preview soiree in the new Navy Yard Park space – Osteria Morini.
Chef Michael White, executive chef from the original Morini in NYC (and restaurateur behind the award-winning Altamarea Group), brought his culinary craft down South, yet still focusing on pastas and meats in the true Italian tradition, and traditionally ordered family style. Guests — like Top Chef Mike Isabella — tried dishes like prosciutto and mortadella meatballs, veal rib chop with pancetta cream, and even morsels of 30+ day dry-aged ribeye!
Prime among the somewhat limited options in the Navy Yard area, Morini’s open floor plan and soothing ambiance — plus those gorgeous views of the south waterfront — offer an ideal place for happy hours, dates, family meals or sophisticated client dinners.
Osteria Morini is set to light up Navy Yard Park, opening for dinner Wedensday, November 20th. Look for lunch beginning December 2nd and an outdoor patio in the spring!
