New Chef at Kingbird “Savors the Nectar of the Sweet Life”

Chef Anthony DiGregorio at Kingbird Restaurant

The Watergate Hotel, which reopened in mid-2016, is a historic property situated on the banks of the Potomac River. Guests enjoy its proximity to the Kennedy Center and other neighborhood delights as well as its own attractions, like the Scandal Room, Argentta Spa, Kingbird Restaurant, The Next Whisky Bar, and Top of the Gate rooftop bar.

And for the last three of those, the storied property has appointed a new executive chef — which means all new menus!

Anthony DiGregorio, former executive chef at DBGB Kitchen in 2021 after various roles with Daniel Boulud’s Dinex Group portfolio and other grand estates, is revamping the menus to offer the restaurants — and especially Watergate’s signature Kingbird Restaurant — some french flair.

Surf & Turf Entree at Kingbird Restaurant

New items include a Seafood Ravioli made with pasta crafted with beets and squid ink, a Braised Shortrib boasting crave-worthy pommes aligot, and a Surf & Turf that mixes seafood delicately into a delicious pairing of strip steak and lobster.

You’ll want to wash it all down with a cocktail in a kingbird-shaped glass, of course!

According to restaurant lore, the restaurant is named for a DC-native bird that is “an unrestrained leader without fear,” and that “savors the nectar of the sweet life but equally understands the need for austerity.”

Head to Kingbird to check it out for yourself!
