Nat Geo Unveils ‘Pristine Seas’… for FREE!

pristineseasGet excited for the latest new exhibition opening at the National Geographic Museum.   And while we love the Nat Geo museum, this one’s free entry makes us love it even more.

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, “Pristine Seas: The Ocean’s Last Wild Places” showcases the National Geographic Pristine Seas project and the work its team, led by National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Dr. Enric Sala, is doing to protect these remote and thriving regions.

Traveling from the Arctic to tropical seas and coastal environments, the Pristine Seas team has completed more than a dozen expeditions since the project’s inception (2008)… and six of the study sites have since been deemed fully protected marine reserves!

In this free exhibition, you’ll see more than 60 images from the project’s expeditions, many captured by Sala himself.  You’ll peruse maps, delight in images of stunning wildlife, and be fascinated by a “virtual aquarium wall” with videos of healthy marine life from a selection of the team’s expeditions, as well as the conservation efforts in place to keep the protected areas safe.  The exhibition also features a section focused on the planning that goes into these expeditions.

Want to hear from Sala himself?  The Explorer-In-Residence will share behind-the-scenes adventures from his Pristine Seas expeditions with National Geographic Live audiences in Washington, DC, on Nov. 19.($25)  After his talk, he will sign copies of his new National Geographic book, PRISTINE SEAS: Journeys to the Ocean’s Last Wild Places.
