“Tomorrow morning, someone new will be at our front door. We don’t know her name. Another new woman will be with us the next day. We made a promise to them, which we have kept for 40 years and which we won’t forsake—we will be here,” said Schroeder Stribling, N Street Village Executive Director, speaking at the non-profit organization’s 40 Anniversary Gala at the West End Ritz Carlton Wednesday night.
Stribling was joined by nearly 600 supporters and sustainers — who raised over $760,000 for N Street to “Keep [Its] Promise” (the theme of the evening) to provide basic needs, integrated health services, housing and employment training/placement assistance.
“After 40 years of existence, N Street Village is the largest provider of housing and services to homeless and low-income women in the D.C. region and it is a credit to all of you here tonight and to the many who came before us as contributors and as beneficiaries. As we watched the need grow––we kept up at every turn.”
Among those who supported with a personal appearance — and maybe a few bids on the coveted fundraising auctions to Argentina and Puerto Rico — included Senator Kelly Ayotte (2014 Founder’s Award Honoree), Senator Kay Hagan (2014 Founder’s Award Honoree), Senator Roy and Mrs. Abigail Blunt (Gala Honorary Steering Committee Chairs), Senator Michael and Mrs. Diana Enzi, Councilmember Jack Evans, Mayor Vincent Gray, Former Mayor Anthony Williams, Assistant to the President and Cabinet Secretary Broderick Johnson and his wife Michele Norris (also gala Co-Chair), and Laura Zeilinger, Executive Director of the US interagency Council on homelessness.
