Maurice Hines Claims One Lady More Sophisticated than Michelle Obama

Maurice Hines and the cast of Sophisticated Ladies lent their time and talents to the annual Arena Stage Benefit for Community Engagement Tuesday evening.

The 66 year old tapper and choreographer for the show, on stage now through May 30th at the Lincoln Theater, showed his appreciation for the audience’s most popular sophisticated lady by creating a tap step mid-performance for Michelle Obama at the “direction” of the spirit of Duke Ellington.

After some fancy footwork he said, “That’s a hot step for Michelle Obama!”

But Hines’ admiration for the First Lady is eclipsed by another fabulous female.  After the show, he admitted that it is actually his Mom that claims #1 on his sophistication spot.
