Local Businesses Benefit from 3rd Annual DC Start Up Week

DC Startup Week (September 24 – 28) boasted growth and success at its third annual celebration this year.  With over 5,000 attendees coming from across the region, the 5-day interactive week showcased hundreds of regional startups, entrepreneurs and the region’s bustling ecosystem, helping to further foster growth within the local startup community.

Startup Week participants networked and gained knowledge by attending thought-provoking, informative and entertaining panels, a unique pitch competition, a hack-a-thon, exhibitions and discussions put on by more than 50 collaborating organizations including The Mayor’s Office, several co-working organizations, startups, corporations, nonprofits and educational institutions.

More than 120 sessions with over 220 speakers in 33 locations across the city, Northern Virginia and Maryland took place in a week! The sessions were tracked by Founder, Growth, Technology and Social Impact.

The week ended with a Pitch Competition where local startup, TwentyTables took top honors, winning cash prizes from DC Startup Week and in-kind prizes from its sponsors Google Cloud, GSP, SilverStrategy, Alley Powered by Verizon and Metamer Productions. Knonap also benefitted as runner up.

TwentyTables  helps consumers find meals from nearby restaurants – all served at a fixed affordable price: $6. For every twenty meals ordered they donate $5 to the hungry and food insecure.  KnoNap is a cocktail napkin that is capable of testing for specific rape-drug presence.
