This Saturday the streets of Shirlington took a transforming trip to Munich, Germany to celebrate the Oktoberfest tradition. This beer-filled block party featured authentic Alpine folk sounds, sights and smells of Germany. Attendees of all ages enjoyed bratwurst, sauerkraut and fresh soft pretzels while watching performances and even joining in on some traditional Deutschland dances.
This was the festival’s fifteenth-year anniversary and had over 6,000 drinking attendees sampling hundreds of ales, lagers and ciders provided by over 65 local breweries. Beyond some local and regional favorites like DC Brau, the festival featured some more unique brews like DuClaw’s Peanut Butter and Chocolate infused “Sweet Baby Jesus” Porter. Additionally, the festival’s sponsor, Capitol City Brewing Co, served their Amber Waves, this year’s Silver medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival.
