What are three pieces that every Washington woman must have in her wardrobe?

We caught up with Kay Unger before a Spring seminar at Saks in Tysons to hear from the designer known best for her dresses.  After showing off her bangles and bright shoes (Kay loves all pops of red!), she admitted that Washington women don’t always dress the part when it comes to a party.

She coined the phrase “short black tie”  and created embellished fancy – but cocktail length – party frocks (see examples below) to address DC’s tendency to dismiss Gala gowns for a length with some leg.
