It originally opened in 1984 as a family tribute to the company’s founder, and has paved the way for the Marriott brand for some three decades.  Last week, the JW Marriott Washington, DC (flagship of JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International’s luxury brand), unveiled a multi-million dollar redesign of its 750 guest rooms, corridors, and executive lounge.  The end result was a luxury evolution.

“Our new room design was inspired by guest feedback,” General Manager Satinder Palta, explains.  “Guests asked for a refined yet, welcoming space for work and relaxation, and we have delivered that and more.  Although we are making changes to our design aesthetic, our landmark location and the exceptional service that our guests have come to expect will not change.”

The JW Marriott’s new rooms were inspired by “the bespoke nature of a beautifully tailored suit.”  Intended to elevate the guest experience, they feature a calming color palate of deep chocolate, charcoal and pearl grey with small accents of pink and chrome — reminiscent of a stylish pocket square and men’s watch.  Textures of tweed, leather and herringbone stitching, as well as subtle patterns of Greek keys and paisley, recall designs often seen on men’s neckties.

But for those not suited to formality, the JW Marriott’s guestrooms now also feature enhanced amenities for entertainment and relaxation.  Users enjoy an upgraded Wi-Fi experience, swivel mounted 48” HDTVs and convenient USB ports for guests to plug-in their own mobile devices.  Bathrooms rejuvenate with custom products from Aromatherapy Associates, and feature illuminated mirrors, sliding doors, and spa-like showers.  Each King bedroom also features a love seat that transforms into a single bed… welcoming luxurious rest with JW Marriott signature bed linens.

A long-standing commitment to sustainability and energy conservation is reflected in guest rooms’ new energy efficient A/C units and LED light bulbs (reducing guest room energy consumption), and a pledge to engage guests with new technology is shown through the use of new apps for complimentary wifimobile check-in/check-out (check-in up to two hours before arrival and automatic notifications when room is ready!), and the new JW event concierge.
