July 4th: See the Sparkle, Hear the Boom

Fiending for fireworks?? The Nation’s Birthday is the best time to be in Washington!  With the city full of events, features and PARTIES, PARTIES, PARTIES, we’ve got your fireworks – and some favorite musical specials that really make the sparks fly.

The Sparkler

One of the most popular Independence Day events is always A Capitol Fourth, a National Symphony Orchestra concert prior to the grand fireworks display.  No tix required for this concert which starts at 9:15 (no admittance to the lawn before 3 PM).  Bring your blanket and picnic for a musical night under the stars.

*Insider Tip* It’s not as patriotic a plan, but if you want to skip the crowds for a sneak peek at the sounds, the public is also admitted to the full concert rehearsal July 3rd at 7:30.

The Bottle Rocket

If you want to keep it local this July 4th (with local artists, musicians, DJ’s, shops) check out the all local The Big Boom at the U Street Music Hall.  Affordable $10 tickets get you in to see DC’s own Asheru on stage with the Fort Knox Five as well as See-I and so many other greater Washington greats.

*Insider Tip*  Six members of the local legendary group Thievery Corporation will be playing.  This is a must not miss for Thievery Corp fans!

The Roman Candle
The Uncle Sam Jam is back at DC’s Southwest Waterfront. Popular bands Soul Asylum and Virginia Coalition headline the event with 6 DJs, 20 bars and Famous Dave’s BBQ making it a classically cultural Independence Day event.

*Insider Tip* Goldstar has your discount tix… only $7.50!

The Cherry Bomb
The Honey Brothers (a five-member New York based band made up of notable names Adrian Grenier, Andrew Vladeck, Ari Gold, Daniel Green and D.S. Posner) take over the W Hotel’s POV Lounge for Boom with a Viewan outrageous open bar and light feast with arguably the best view of the fireworks in town.  After the band’s sets, famous DJ Sky Nellor takes over.

*Insider Tip* Boom with a View Hotel packages for two start at $619 – an awesome deal for the W – but some individual tickets are now on sale.  You’ll have to snap ’em up fast…and figure out how to get home 🙂
