Introducing Hub Theatre and “The Pavilion”

There are very few things that get me excited enough to leave Narnia (if you will remember, that is K Street Kate’s nickname for DC; read the book to understand why). Yet when a member of the Board of Directors for Hub Theatre asked me to experience an inaugural performance of the theatre at 1st Stage in Tyson’s Corner, I was actually excited to cross the bridge. I love the theatre!

I’ll admit that the location was a bit off-putting. Set back off a service road full of store fronts advertising car parts or foreign vehicle maintenance was a hopeful sign pointing the way to the new Hub Theatre. Once inside, though, the space was perfect. Intimate enough for the audience to feel actively involved in the scene, but impressively staged beyond traditional community theatre. And the quality of the actors was pretty remarkable as well!

There are only three in the cast of “The Pavilion” by Craig Wright. The interplay between them was entertaining and poignantly realistic. (And I have to put in a plug for Jason Lott (the Narrator). He was totally captivating: a one-man show all on his own!) It’s a story we all know too well: Can someone change? How do we deal with the actions of our past in our present and future? Can a happy ending end regret?

Find out for yourself by catching “The Pavilion” at Hub Theatre before it closes on June 7th. This trip out of Narnia is totally worth it!
