Inside The Reading Connection’s ‘Of Wine and Words’

Everyone has ‘their cause,’ and many of us have several.  I’ve always been partial to those that promote reading — and workforce skills.  Restaurants for Reading?!  Libations for Literacy?!  Yes, please!!

Arlington based children’s non-profit The Reading Connection (TRC) held its annual Of Wine & Words fundraiser Friday night on the Jones Day rooftop terrace overlooking the Capitol Building and grounds.   The rare beautiful early Spring evening marked the tenth year of the event — and the 25th anniversary of TRC — and saw a lot of glasses raised in support.

Restaurants like Circa, Eventide, The Hamilton, and Lebanese Taverna invited guests to nibble while they networked — and wash it down with selections from Lost Rhino and Mad Fox Brewing Companies — all while upping the ante at a silent auction that had something for everyone.

Over the last 25 years, TRC has touched the lives of 15,000 local at-risk kids, and has given out nearly 100,000 new books, in the metro DC area.

This year, the organization plans to bring its Read-Alouds and Book Club to even more in and around the Beltway… announcing an exciting expansion into Maryland.
