Thursday night Chef Danny Wells and Jeff Black’s Republic opened its doors for an exclusive cocktail party. The newest addition to the Black Restaurant Group, Republic will pay homage to the Takoma Park neighborhood – The People’s Republic of Takoma Park.
Guests sampled menu items like some of Black’s signature Oysters (to die for!), Oyster PoBoys, Skirt Steak and Duck Confit Cubans. The menu will be heavy on sustainably purchased seafood, but will also provide options for the vegetarian palate popular in the area.
Cocktails like The Localist, featuring Takoma Park’s own Bee George honey, were the hit of the night, as mixologists dazzled guests, topping them with orange citrus flame.
The eclectic dining space lined with red velvet couches, vintage wallpaper, an outdoor patio and speakeasy style bar makes for a very inviting atmosphere – which will be enhanced with live music in the future.
Republic opens its doors to the public Sunday, December 8th. For the restaurant bordering DC, locally featured beer, cocktails inspired by local celebrities and political themes will make residents feel right at home, closer to home.
