Sometimes a doodle will do it — inspire a child to read and succeed.
Jumpstart, a national non-profit with the mission to help every child in America enter kindergarten prepared to succeed, held its annual Scribbles to Novels event at the University Club Wednesday night. Featured guests — including Dinaw Mengestu (2012 MacArthur Fellow), at right, Tom Healy (Chairman of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board), and Richard L. Holm (Central Intelligence Agency), at left — addressed the crowd to discuss the critical role literature and education has played in their lives.
The black-tie event helped to raise awareness for Jumpstart and its work serving more than 700 children throughout the DC area.
