Inside Hair Cuttery’s #ChangeItUp Pop-Up

Instagrammable experiential pop-ups are all the rage these days.  From the Museum of Ice Cream to Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s Mirrored Room, selfie snappers love these interactive art installations that fit so well into their social feeds.

Sometimes a brand organizes it so well around their product that you almost can’t tell what they are selling (we’re looking at you, Glade Museum of Feelings!).  And sometimes the kitsch is just too cute to care.  That’s the fun behind Hair Cuttery’s #ChangeItUpHC pop-up at Tyson’s Corner Center.

Located in the Nordstrom wing, next to Eddie Bauer, the temporary installation held a VIP opening night experience courtesy of Dennis and Ann Ratner and featuring host personalities Angie Goff, Carly Heitinger, and Anchyi Wei on Tuesday night.

Armed with selfie mirrors alight for the perfect glow, attendees considered how they might change up their look for the new season as they posed for pictures in a color infinity room, “washed” their tresses in one of the largest shampoo sinks ever (read: ball pit), and got literally blown away in a wind tunnel of hairdryers (and fans).

Amongst all of the mixing, mingling and mirrors, stylists demonstrated some of the hottest cuts and styles for Fall and added trendy colored streaks to guests’ hair to raise funds for charity.

As if having content for your SnapChat feed wasn’t enough, VIP opening party attendees left with a swag bag filled with Hair Cuttery products — including a free cut and color or highlight — to be sure DCers have no excuse not to be changing it up.
