Inauguration Evening Events Day 2

A visit to the home of the French Ambassador started the long evening – perhaps the most hectic of my inaugural schedule. The Ambassador’s residence is almost an Embassy in itself, an incredible museum of furniture from Versailles (and Napolean’s rug!!). With customary wine and cheese in hand, I chatted with Miss France, Alonzo Mourning, and good friend Dave Grimaldi. It was a pleasure to meet the Ambassador and thank him for welcoming us into his home.

I just missed Oprah as I hurried to make it to the Washington Post’s Root Inaugural Ball. The Root is a publication headed by Editor-in-Chief Henry Louis Gates Jr., and he and Donald Graham of the Post had quite the list of celebrities in the house to view exhibits at the National Museum of American History, sip on pomegranate martinis, nosh on Ben’s Chili Bowl half smokes, and get down to Biz Markie on the dancefloor. Larry King was in attendance, Tammy Haddad had her usual camcorder in hand (smart reporter!), and David “Stretch” Gregory was (of course!) the tallest and most hip on the dancefloor! Bob Woodward, Isaiah Washington, Jonathan Alter and Howard Fineman were also spotted.
To end the night, I trekked out to f.u.r. nightclub – my first time! – for the Artists Making an Impact event with Washington Life and the Impact Film Fund. It was crazy. Fur in an evening gown. WOW! But as always, Michael Romeo more than took care of us, which was exceedingly nice of him considering the crowd he was supporting last night.

Nelly was hosting, and was very nice when we met him. And even though we arrived very late, we didn’t miss the Ludacris performance!! The film guys from Supersize Me were filming all over the place, and we caught up with Jeffrey Rush again (he was earlier at the Ambassador’s residence) in the VIP section.
