How DC Celebrated National Ice Cream Day!

“Atticus has brought his own spoon, trying to get an unfair advantage!” the commentator laughed before handing Atticus a regulation sized pink utensil. The crowd cheered as seven children prepared to race their IMG_1277way through two cups of ice cream. Though the competition was fierce and despite his downgraded spoon, Atticus won gold in the three to six year old ice cream eating contest.

The competition was just one of many special attractions at Union Market this Saturday in honor of National Ice Cream Day!

The 2013 DC Scoop offered Washingtonians several cold treats to beat the DC heat. The District’s best ice cream, gelato, custard, frozen yogurt & other frozen treats vendors set up shopIMG_1249 and offered free samples to all.

Stirrers and shakers of the DC food scene also joined in on the fun — voting on their favorite vendor, and serving as an all-star panel of judges to determine the 2013 DC Scoop Winner.
