Here She Is: A Beauty Pageant Humor Granny

“I want audiences to laugh and say, ‘She’s been living in my house!'” Jeanne Robertson told K Street Kate in a phone interview Tuesday afternoon.  A humorist, Robertson has made a living off sharing hilarious topics – those she comes across while traveling (sometimes 27 days out of the month!), stories of living with her husband “Left Brain,” and things that happen to her as a result of her age, 68.

The 6′ 2″ towering Grandma, who credits her start to the Miss America pageant system, has spent almost the last half a century as a convention entertainer.  But enter some YouTube viral videos, and the seasoned speaker has since been convinced to take her comedy across the country.

“I’ve always said the pageant doesn’t hand you a career, but it can certainly help you find one… I found out in the first few weeks [of being Miss North Carolina] that I could make people laugh; and, I must have made over 500 speeches,” she remembered.  It seemed her convention career was meant to be.

And now, the lady who herself laughs at such classic comedians as Bill Cosby, Bob Newhart, and Carol Burnett follows closely in their footsteps.   January 28th at GW’s Lisner Auditorium, Robertson will tell her own life’s amusing anecdotes and laughter-inducing incidents with that “family friendly” formula she does so well.

She’s a nifty Nana who probably couldn’t tell you what ROTFL means, but regardless, she promises you’ll be doing it.
