Having a Ball: Opera in the Outfield

Nationals Stadium has its fair share of balls… but nothing like A Masked Ball (Un Ballo in Maschera).

Each year, the Washington National Opera, in partnership with Target, presents a free, live opera broadcast at Nationals Park. This year’s simulcast, Verdi’s dramatic opera A Masked Ball will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, September 19, 2010.  Reserve your spot to enjoy an artistic afternoon (and “pre-game” fun!) with up to 20,000 fans in a festive ballpark atmosphere.
“Our free simulcasts are Washington National Opera’s gift to the city and to the public, in great thanks for all their support,” says Plácido Domingo, General Director of Washington National Opera, inviting “fans” to enjoy a day in the ballpark – complete with concessions, kid-friendly activities and prizes – while the opera plays overhead.
It’ll be a ball!

*New this year, “fans” have the chance to win the “Take Me Out to the Opera” Songwriting Contest!  Submit your written opera-inspired lyrics to the famous baseball tune and you could be selected by Maestro Domingo (during the “Seventh Aria Stretch”) to receive prize packages, or even have your song performed live by a crowd of thousands of opera-going fans. Details here.
