Good People Comes to Arena Stage with Tony Award Nominated Lead

“He’s Good People,” says single and down on her luck Mother Margaret Walsh (played by Tony Award nominee Johanna Day) of her long lost boyfriend Mark (Andrew Long) returned to South Boston perhaps just in time to be the Savior she’s been searching.

Good PeopleNot romantically, of course.  No, Mark’s a fancy Doctor now.  And Margie, shell shocked from losing yet another job, is sure he’ll hire her — or find someone who can.

Nevermind that her ex is embarrassed of his Southie past and doesn’t relish the reunion.

Good People, now on at Arena Stage, is a humorous Broadway hitGood People that’s also a brave and timeless story of class and economic hardship.  With sharp wit and perfectly timed zingers, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire dramatizes some very real and complicated concerns of America’s working class.

It may also leave audiences wondering what makes “good people.”
