Getting “Edited” Goodwill

The current economy puts secondhand stuff back in style, but can castoffs really be that cool??

Tuesday night marked the opening of Goodwill’s first ever pop-up shop, Edited for Goodwill. Goodwill of Greater Washington, along with global design and architecture firm Gensler, came together to create a temporary store front provided by Pepco in their Edison Place Gallery (702 Eighth Street, NW).

Following the success of its traveling trunk shows, Goodwill wanted take the experience a step further by connecting with the metro area’s shrewd shoppers via a pop-up retail shop. The store provides DC residents the opportunity to exercise their oft-questioned style savvy by shopping the choice merchandise, all while supporting the efforts of Goodwill.

“We were inspired by Goodwill’s work to help people ‘edit’ themselves and efforts to support job placements and employment opportunities for the disadvantaged,” explained Bonnie Sen, one of the project’s lead designers. “We wanted to showcase their efforts by ‘editing the store’ in a unique way.”

The Edited for Goodwill Pop-up Shop will be open Wednesday, August 1 through Friday, August 3, from Noon to 7 PM.
