A loop of the best Ice Bucket Challenge videos on Youtube played on TV screens above the circular bar as the sounds of dueling pianos rang in the air.

Georgetown Piano Bar celebrated its grand opening last week with a cause, to support the local chapter of the ALS Association. In attendance were Nancy and John Frates, the family who started the Ice Bucket Challenge in support of their 29 year old son Pete Frates, who was recently diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

IMG_5537Pianists Hunter Lang and Bill Whitman dueled classics on a bright red piano with two sets of keys, to classics such as Piano Man, Don’t Stop Believin’ and Sweet Caroline, and other requests from those attending and donating. All proceeds from Martini and Samuel Adams sales were donated to the DC/MD/VA chapter of the ALS Association.

We predict Georgetown Piano Bar will be your new chill hangout, with or without the chill of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
