French Conductor Philippe Auguin named WNO Music Director

The Washington National Opera and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced that French conductor Philippe Auguin will assume the position of Music Director for the Opera and Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, starting immediately.

Working under the leadership of WNO General Director Placido Domingo, Maestro Auguin will oversee the Orchestra, which performs for all main stage opera productions, while he also continues to serve as Music Director at the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice. This is Auguin’s first directorship in the United States.

Auguin’s first appearance as Music Director will be WNO’s new production of Salome beginning October 7, 2010 at the Kennedy Center Opera House.
