“Fatty” Author Edward Ugel: The Camera Adds 39 Pounds!

“Does the camera really add ten pounds?!  I wrote on Facebook today that I thought it added 39!” said local author Edward Ugel of his morning on The Today Show promoting his new book, “I’m With Fatty.

Reading from that personal memoir Tuesday evening at Bethesda’s Barnes & Noble, Ugel shared his story of a year in the life of a man who hates his relationship with food.

“For a long, long time, body image has been reserved for women – Richard Simmons notwithstanding,” laughed Ugel.

“But I didn’t get on The Today Show because I won the lottery.  I felt like I earned my right in that chair, and that took the edge off of feeling like an Oompa Loompa.”

He contends that “I’m With Fatty” is the farthest thing from a diet book –  if anything it’s a how not to.  And while he still struggles with weight issues, he’s happier with the man who looks back at him in the mirror.

“There are pages upon chapters of failure in this book, and I hope that makes it real.”
