Kate Michael, @kstreetkate, is a Writer/Model/On-Camera Host and Event Emcee. Notable as the Founder and current Editor-At-Large of K Street Magazine, Kate started the site while serving as Miss District of Columbia 2006 and competing in Miss America (2007). Currently, Kate works as a professional spokesperson and model, walking the runway for such industry icons as Valentino, Derek Lam, Naeem Kahn and Oscar de la Renta. The inaugural Grand Africa Run, a mass-participation road race organized by the nonprofit Nova Connections, under the auspices of the African Union and in partnership with the DC Mayor’s Office on African Affairs, is set to take place on Saturday, July 21st during African Week celebrations in the nation’s capital.
The event is comprised of a main 5K race, as well as a 1K run for children 11 years of age and under. Organizers expect thousands of runners to take part, running along a scenic course by the Anacostia River, with the race starting and finishing at the Yards Park in D.C. Officials also expect a number of top African athletes to attend as guests and as participants in the event.
