Ein “Energized” by Street Soccer

“Everytime I get around something that has to do with Street Soccer USA or the Homeless World Cup – or anything to do with this cause –  I just get energized by it,” said Washington Kastles owner Mark Ein as he accepted the Philanthropy Through Sport Award at Wednesday’s Sport for Social Change Awards dinner at the French Embassy.

One of four athlete and community leaders recognized for their work toward using sport as a development tool for homeless youth and young adults, Ein harkened back to his first experience with the program — and why this tennis man remains committed to street soccer’s success.

“When we were presented with the opportunity to partner with the Homeless World Cup, it was an obvious fit and we embraced it.  The first Homeless World Cup, in 2008, was held in our stadium, and this year, June 10 -12, the first event that we’re going to hold in our new stadium… will again be the Street Soccer USA Homeless World Cup. “

“Sports have the ability…to provide fitness for body and mind and to change the lives of individuals and impact the spirit of the community. “
