Documents & Documentaries

Most head here for the nation’s founding documents, but this week, the Archives are being visited for the nation’s best documentaries!

The National Archives, in partnership with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Charles Guggenheim Center for the Documentary Film kicked off its 8th annual Showcase of Academy Award Nominated Documentaries and Short Subjects Wednesday night.

The National Archives’ Young Founders’ Society held a pre-screening reception before joining an auditorium of docu-fans to view Hell and Back Againjoined by DC Area Film Critics Association Founder Willie Waffle, Washington Film Institute’s John Hanshaw and “the only man to get as close to the Magna Carta as King John,” Archivist of the United States, David S. Ferriero.

The documentary and shorts series – which is free and open to the public as space allows – continues through Sunday afternoon (Feb. 26), just in time for the Oscars!
