DC, Here’s Some Cheesy News

The big cheese is coming!  GCDC (Grilled Cheese DC… plus artisanal cheese and local wine) is planning to open near the city’s other big cheese at 1600 Pennsylvania avenue next February.  Just one block from the White House, the First Family — and you — will have easy access to all of the gourmet grilled sammies they can cheese over.

First time restauranteur Bruce Klores and his son Steven have tapped NYC rising star cheesemonger (though born and raised in Bethesda, MD!!) Sophie Slesinger to head the fast-casual concept, which will “boast the most comprehensive grilled cheese selection in the city” and “pair local wines, beers and seasonal cocktails with artisanal cheese and charcuterie boards…”

Expect an extensive and constantly changing menu of specialty grilled cheese sandwiches — like perhaps Klores’ soup-in-a-sandwich French Onion Soup, with Gruyere, caramelized onions and sherry on sourdough, or the indulgent Lobster GC with fresh lobster, l’amuse gouda and chives on sourdough.  And of course, there will be the essential tomato soup (does grilled cheese exist without it?!) and a quirky addition… tater tots, either regular or topped with a variety of flavors like hot Cajun spices or garlic and herbs.

GCDC will be open Monday through Friday (11 AM – 9 PM) serving lunch, post-work and dinner.  Plans to open for brunch on select Saturdays are forthcoming.

*GCDC will be located at1730 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
