DC, By the Book

reading rainbow gathered at the Shaw Library Wednesday night for a “mapathon” — that is, to create a  custom interactive map allowing Beltway bibliophiles to explore the city as it is presented in page turning fiction.

Participants spent the evening entering passages from books set in DC (like “River Cross My Heart” by Breena Clarke, “When Washington Was in Vogue” by Edward C. Williams, “Lost in the City” by Edward P. Jones, and pretty much everything by George Pelecanos) into a new technology tool.

The grant-funded project, organized by the DC Public Library in partnership with the Humanities Council, the Historical Society, and Cultural Tourism DC, continues with future mapathons.  DCers are invited to join in on creating the map as well as exploring the tomes found there to enjoy.
