Da Vinci Denim Design Wins Goodwill DIY Fashion Contest

It all started with a purchase at Goodwill… and ended up channelling something more San Guiliano Milanese.

Local designers recently competed in a contest to see whose secondhand design could win first honors.  Required to begin their creations with item(s) purchased from a Washington area Goodwill retail store and morphed them into magnificence.

Giselle Carillo (Alexandria, VA) was just last week named the winner of Goodwill of Greater Washington’s “Be a Goodwill Fashion Designer” DIY contest and will present her custom design at the La Passione di Milano themed Fashion of Goodwill Runway Show & Gala on September 27th at the Italian Embassy.

“Being that the Renaissance was the process of rebirth, I found myself giving my garment the influence of classic Italian art with a modern twist,” said Carillo. “The most important aspect of the garment is the drawing on the back, which was inspired by one of Di Vinci’s greatest…”

Her Italian inspirations were art and architecture, though a great find at Goodwill was the spark that started it all.
