Cosmo Couture Teams Manufacture Competition

A wardrobe of wood and wall coverings… a tile and carpet frock… a stone suit.  These are a few of the “couture” creations manufactured for the models of the 3rd Annual Cosmo Couture Fashion & Design — a runway event that fosters a direct collaboration between local Architecture and Interior Design firms and their manufacturing partners.

The DC area lately loves to feature curious fashion, from gourmet garments of chocolate to papier mache dresses to ‘recycle runways’ of pre-used, pre-formed fabrics and other materials.  So to take the stuff of interior design and fashion it into a dress is an exciting endeavor!

This annual event, produced by the Washington Metro City Center of the International Interior Design Association Mid-Atlantic Chapter, engages 21 design firms to create garments reflecting a given theme: Red Star by Raymond Saunders (1970), currently on view at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. (The Corcoran will also assemble all of this year’s garments into an exhibit to open on September 26, after the Cosmo Couture event.)

Here, the IA Interior Architects Team explains their concept and preparation for Cosmo Couture on September 20th:
