Champagne Wishes and Calypso Dreams at Capella’s Third “Style Series” Luncheon

Overcast skies threatened to damper the pretend vacations of the ladies-who-lunch set who gathered on the rooftop of Georgetown’s Capella Hotel Wednesday afternoon.  Dreams of jetsetting to sunny islands and sandy beaches may have been deferred — but by meal’s end, the packing list checkoff was well under way!

The mid-week event was the third in a “Style Series” collaboration of Capella and April Yvonne, the hotel’s Resident Stylist, which showcases renowned labels and fashion houses throughout the year with special curated commentary.  For the upcoming Spring and Summer seasons, the resort and lifestyle brand Calypso St. Barths was a perfect pairing.

With its latest collection inspired by India’s Jaipur, a rose colored city, most of the looks Yvonne selected featured a flash of festivity on a comfortable canvas: an unstructured white button-down tucked into a printed maxi skirt, an embroidered tunic, a colorful wrap dress worn a different way for every day of the week.

“The general look is oversized with straw hats and floppy bags and things to wear when DC’s humidity gets overbearing,” she stressed.  Sharing that many of these are her personal go-to looks both around the house as well as on a relaxing vacation.  “You’re also looking for something light to pack, and that doesn’t need a lot of care at your destination… maybe just a light steaming.”

The sold out crowd — including local fashionables Jennifer Harlow, Andrea Rinaldi and Heather IMG_3985Shaw Menis — took it all in as they enjoyed caprese salads, salmon and mushroom risotto.  After the informal presentation, guests awaited a raffle with coveted prizes like an hour consultation with Yvonne, a beauty class from nearby Blue Mercury, brunch at the Capella, and a dress from Calypso’s current line.

Attendees were also able to purchase all items seen in the show on-site, with a portion of the event’s proceeds benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
