Even before contestants take to the stage (tonight) for Sunday’s Miss America contest, Miss District of Columbia was already bringing home awards and accolades.
She and her fellow competitors for the Miss DC contestant were in a heated battle to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network last summer, with
group fundraising events including a J. Crew fashion show in Georgetown and the ever-popular Mr. DC Competition at Penn Social.
After the competition at Arena Stage, her court and other finalists continued to help winner, Miss DC 2014 Teresa Davis, with the national pageant’s CMN fundraising contest. They tried their knowledge at the CMN Miss America trivia contest at Nellie’s and they all stepped up to the plate — well… buffet donated by Tony Cheng’s in Chinatown — for the Miss America Send-Off Party hosted by John Tinpe.
Last week, all that hard work paid off as the Miss DC Scholarship Organization was announced
as the winner of the Miracle Maker Award on stage at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, NJ. This award goes to the organization which raised the highest average per contestant. Not only do all the funds raised by the contestants benefit Children’s National Medical Center in DC, but the Miss DC organization was presented with a $5,000 check for its own scholarship fund.
What put DC over the top against bigger states for this coveted national award? It seems it was Bullfeathers on Capitol Hill! Thanks to manager Nicholas Davis (in lead image, above), Hill staffers on all sides came by to wish good luck to their colleague (who works in Rep. Tom Coles office) just before she left for the national competition.
Bullfeathers’ abundant appetizers and special beverages were easy crowd pleasers. Apparently they were fundraising Miracle Makers as well!
