Bowties & Belles on Derby Day

The Junior Friends of The Campagna Center hosted their annual Bowties and Belles Kentucky Derby Party over the weekend at the sprawling Belle Haven Country Club.

Seersuckered gents and well-heeled ladies bb118sipped on specialty cocktails — like those irresistible mint juleps — and enjoyed a premium bourbon tasting while they nibbled on delicious Southern-inspired fare.

The afternoon included a best hat competition, won by the glamorous Cook Holt, as well as a contest for the best dressed bow-tied gentleman.  bb23

A big screen TV showed Derby coverage throughout the party, with guests gathering along their own Millionaires Row at 6:20 to watch the races and cheer on their favorite horse.  Though the crowd bet on Normandy, it was Orb who took first place!

Chaired by Kim Speed and Betty Youles, the event raised more than $40,000 for the Campagna Center’s services for Alexandria’s needy families and children.  Magnificent weather, horse betting, the lively Kate Moran Band, precious silent auction baskets, gorgeous ladies and dapper dudes made for a delightful Derby day!
