Carson Kressley eyed all of the evening’s fashions
The House of France transformed into a House of Fashion Friday night for Miss Sinergy’s second annual charity fashion show, which raised $30,000 for the Skin Cancer Foundation. Over a dozen designers showcased pieces to an audience that included former Marie Claire fashion director Lucy Sykes Rellie, fashion TV personality Carson Kressley and DC’s own Real Housewife Catherine Ommanney.
Tala Raassi with her swimsuit model
The ironically titled “Beauty is Skin Deep” event (to raise awareness of skin cancer—the most common, and most preventable cancer) highlighted that beauty, and fashion, are actually far more than that. “Fashion equals freedom,” explained Iranian designer Tala Raassi, as she talked about coming from a world in which women are forbidden to wear skirts, let alone swimsuits (she showcased several at the show).
For fellow showcase designer Stephen Mikhail, a self-professed travel lover, the show posed a particular opportunity to draw inspiration from a less-familiar place; and he specially-designed a “capsule collection” honoring Washington. “It’s one of the most amazing cities,” he said longingly, describing his collection as North African with a touch of Jackie O.
