Author/Experimenter Manny Howard celebrated for “breaking a lot of rules”

At a book signing Wednesday evening at Georgetown’s Hook restaurant, author Manny Howard takes his James Beard Foundation Award-winning New York Magazine cover story and explains how he turned it into a full – and experimental – novel for the locavore movement.

In My Empire of Dirt, Howard details how, for seven months, he maintained the first farm in Brooklyn in generations, complete with refuse, radishes and the all-important forbidden rooster.  The simple goal?  To live on his own land, while still having a life!
