A Stitch in Time

Congratulations to The Silken Thread, an embroidery boutique which celebrated it’s fifth anniversary Tuesday evening – proving that a hobby really can turn heads.

“After having my first daughter, I wanted to stay home with her,” said Laura Swanstrom Reece (pictured at right with the author), “so I began doing embroidery work on the side while she napped and at night.  From there, it grew into a business!”

Five years later, The Silken Thread is now a “family business” in every sense of the word with her husband and now two daughters pitching in.

The newly opened Frosting Cupcakery in Chevy Chase offered their business for the fifth anniversary party and provided a cupcake to each guest.  The yummy cupcakes paired well with the displays of Laura’s talented embroidery and well wishers for their fifth anniversary celebration.
